Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Partial Hospitalization Program

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is for adults, age 18 and older, experiencing psychiatric or substance abuse problems. It can be beneficial for those who need a more intensive program than traditional outpatient treatment, but is less restrictive than inpatient hospitalization. We offer PHP treatment seven days a week, and patients are able to attend during the day and return home in the evening.

The Partial Hospitalization Program uses elements from various therapies and services:

  • Medication Management (available in PHP only)
  • Psychotherapy (talk therapy)
  • Psychiatric Assessments
  • Medical and Nursing Assessments
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Social Skills Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Mindfulness and Stress Management
  • Psychoeducation
  • 12-Step Recovery
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Anger Management
  • Trauma Focus
  • Guided Journaling
  • Life Skills
  • Other therapies as appropriate

We provide coffee, lunch, and snacks throughout treatment and at no charge.

Adult Substance Abuse Treatment

Sometimes outpatient day treatment isn’t enough, and inpatient treatment is needed to overcome an addiction. Acute substance abuse rehab at The Bridgeway can help with that.

Located in North Little Rock, Arkansas, our physician-led, twelve-step program addresses the adult’s entire wellbeing, including medical, psychiatric, and social needs through the application of the American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria for treatment. Here we address the adult’s entire wellbeing, including medical, psychiatric, and social needs.

We begin by developing an individualized treatment plan which focuses on the identified behavioral challenges of each patient. Each treatment plan is tailored to the individual and involves their input. Each patient has the freedom to examine which thought processes are harming their ability to cope and recover. As such, the plan may include a wide variety of evidence-based therapies. Treatment may consist of medication management overseen by the psychiatrist who meets with each patient weekly. Therapists meet with each patient daily. The length of stay for this program is 28 days depending upon the payor source.

Treatment consists of a psychiatrist-led multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals consisting of:

  • A board-certified psychiatrist who is also a Certified Addictionologist
  • Nurses
  • Case coordinators
  • Licensed social workers
  • Mental health technicians
  • Licensed recreational therapists
  • Substance abuse counselors
  • Certified yoga instructor

Patients participate in different elements of the program based on their individual needs, including:

  • Group therapy
  • Recreational therapy
  • Psychiatric education
  • Nursing education
  • Substance abuse education
  • Relapse prevention
  • Medication management
  • Dietary counseling
  • On-campus support by Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous or Al-Anon

Group Therapy: Led by licensed therapists, there are three structured groups per day which consist of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Addictive behaviors group:  A more traditional educational group regarding the 12 step principles, education on the disease process, and relapse prevention strategies.

Process group: discussion on challenges, setbacks, and successes in treatment where patients can process what’s on their minds with treatment and set goals and discuss their progress with this.  It’s not uncommon for issues to arise with the family setting in treatment, and patients can process these during this session.

Topic group: a more structured group tailored specifically to a topic related to alcoholism and addiction.  Patients are given a scenario or other topic and asked to discuss how it relates to them and their treatment.

Recreational Therapy: Licensed recreational therapists deliver daily programs consisting of group and individual activities designed to develop coping skills necessary to recovery. This form of therapy includes:

  • Yoga, stretching, meditation, and deep breathing.
  • Art therapy, including painting, music, and journaling.

Family Support: While we recognize the importance of family involvement and support during this time, actual visitation and in person family therapy will be limited to phone calls or virtual sessions due to the pandemic. Family members and significant others may also call and speak with a therapist when they have questions or concerns.

Discharge Planning: The individual’s case coordinator begins discharge planning upon admission by developing goals and plans for a transition to a less intensive level of treatment to include:

  • Partial hospitalization program for substance use disorder
  • Intensive outpatient treatment for substance use disorder
  • Traditional outpatient services
  • Long-term rehabilitation
